Sailing in the Whitsunday Island on Maxi Yacht Spank Me
Spank Me carries 26 passengers and 4 crew on any one trip and is a proper ocean going Maxi Racing Yacht. A previous Sydney to Hobart race winner taking line honours in 1989-1990 in the worst of conditions.
The race began with a 10 knot westerly as the fleet cleared Sydney heads, the breeze turned into a 20 knot Nor Westerly, and a gale warning was issued.
During the first night the wind turned to the south-west at 40 knots. The next day the fleet was scattered down the NSW south coast in very strong westerly and southwesterly winds of between 30 and 40 knots. Gale force south-westerly winds were screaming across Bass Strait as the fleet headed into it.
Several yachts were damaged and a crew member of one yacht, sustained fatal head injuries when a rig collapsed. The winds eased for Drumbeat when they reached the Tasmanian east coast and Drumbeat took line honours.
At 87 feet in length Spank Me is one of the larger Maxi Racing yachts in the Whitsunday Islands and with a history such as shown above you can feel safe on this large ocean going racer.
Below decks Spank Me is still layed out for racing with open plan accommodation and no private cabins. Spank Me is built for speed and offers you a true Maxi Yacht sailing experience.
